This is a great concrete illustration of the point that AB and others have
been making for years about the Dave-Leno competition, which is that for
Dave, and CBS, beating Leno in the ratings is really besides the point. He
generated $271 Million/year in ad revenues, which is probably about $261
Million more than what CBS would have generated in that time slot before
Dave got there. I doubt there is an instance of a more "value added"
television show than The Late Show. They could pay Dave $100 million a year,
still have him lose to Leno, and still make money.
