As the daytime soap opera genre fights for pure survival against networks who don't want to spend money and stations that would rather run syndicated shows where they can sell more ads, I'm not sure if the decision of Brad Bell, Sony and CBS to bring in Genie Francis (of the Luke and Laura glory days of "General Hospital") to play a new character on "The Young and the Restless" is going to make any big difference:

But as the Bell family sees their shows as the only remaining soaps on CBS, "Days" (where William Bell spent many years as head writer) as the only daytime show on NBC and "AMC" rumored to be under the gun, I really don't know if a former soap queen is going to do the trick, especially as the nets continue to demand those younger demos. -- TV or Not TV ....
