Craig Gilbert, who created the PBS proto-reality show "An American Family" in 1974 and never worked in television again, tells the New Yorker that the HBO made-for "Cinema Verite," which premieres Saturday night, is not exactly telling the truth about the production of the series, including making him the villain (he chose not to sue HBO--Pat and William Loud, whose family was the subject of the series, threatened to sue but were given hush money by HBO to keep quiet):
