My thoughts on Lindsay's "Tonight Show" appearance:

First off, the single male in me would like it known that I thought
she looked terrific. I still think she looks better as a redhead, but
she makes the blond work, too. And I still fervently believe that --
for her community service -- she should be shackled to me for an
unspecified period of time.

Regarding the band's musical choices: She walked out to ZZ Top's
"Tush," and they went to commercial while the band played a heartless
rendition of "Get Up Off A That Thang." I miss Kevin Eubanks. The new
band makes Don "No Soul" Simmons seem soulful. No denying they can
play, but there is -- to borrow a phrase -- no blood flowing to it.

Leno asked Lindsay if she had a strong support system. When she said
yes, Leno should have smacked her in the head. If she REALLY believes
she has a support system, she is seriously in trouble. Naturally, Leno
did no follow-up question because he still doesn't listen to the
answers. He tried to get her to discuss her father, but she wouldn't.
She also wouldn't discuss the court case. Mostly, she said how she
knows she has made mistakes and that she has to accept responsibility
for her actions. Not a very compelling interview; good thing she is
nice to look at.

Maybe I'm reaching, but watching her, I thought her body language and
general demeanor reflected someone who resented having to be there --
someone who detested the concept of damage control. I genuinely
believe that she feels her life is hers to live however she chooses
and that it is nobody else's business.

I also feel that she has done a better-than-average job of staying out
of the spotlight. She has avoided the hot spots and the red carpets,
and that is what I would recommend for any celebrity, let alone one
with -- for lack of a better word -- issues.

I also believe that she is of the level of celebrity where she feels
she can simply walk out of a jewelry shop without paying for
merchandise -- that it is expected that such an establishment would
want to pay her to wear their stuff. Is it theft? Yes, but anyone who
has ever worked in film or television will tell you that stars
regularly raid the wardrobe and accessories from the set -- again,
they don't even perceive it as wrong. I'm not making excuses for her
-- it was wrong -- but I don't believe she has any comprehension of
that.

In many ways, she can be likened to Charlie Sheen, except that in
Sheen's case I think he did grow up in an environment where he knew
right from wrong, and he knowingly crossed the line. Maybe I'm
projecting because she is hot and I do think she is talented (I'm told
I sometimes don't see flaws in women that would be glaringly obvious
in men), but I'd like to believe that her bad decisions were born from
genuine ignorance. I still think she should be held accountable for
all that she has done, but I also think her "support group" needs to
be smacked in the face, too.
