Every incarnation of the Tonight Show Band experienced the same thing, and all of them have complained about it. At first, the band leaders are given full freedom over what songs they can perform, but after two years or so (and I've heard this in interviews with Doc, Branford, and Kevin), the network set strict limits as to the number of songs they can cycle through (usually 30 or so, plus a few holiday standards in December). Marsalis actually mentioned it on his last Tonight Show appearance as one reason he wasn't sad to be leaving. >> My thoughts on Lindsay's "Tonight Show" appearance: >> >> First off, the single male in me would like it known that I thought >> she looked terrific. She does the trick for me, though I have gone on record that, in the history of films where known actresses have played strippers, Lindsay's performance in "I Know Who Killed Me" seemed the most realistic, and it wasn't because she was a stellar actress in the movie. -- Kevin M.
