Step by step... inch by inch .... I was gratified to read in the Times this weekend that Lorne considers Wiig to be one of the top three or four players all time. That explains A) the creative black hole the show entered into years ago, and B) the lack of funny women on the show in recent recent years. If Wiig is the gold standard, what chance does anyone else have?
(My personal top five SNLers -- in no particular order -- Lovitz, Hartman, John Belushi, Aykroyd, and Murray. Gilda and Murphy are also on the short list. I'd put Wiig in the company of Ann Risley, Anthony Michael Hall, Downey, and Kazurinsky.) --Dake Sikula On May 3, 11:58 am, "Mark J." <[email protected]> wrote: > Kristen Wiig tells Time's Joel Stein that she's retiring Penelope and > Gilly and will not do them again, even if Lorne Michaels demands she > do them: > > http://www.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,2068612-1,00.html > > The article admits that most of Wiig's "SNL" characters tend to wear > out their welcome quickly, but also makes the point that her film > roles so far (including the upcoming Judd Apatow chick-flick-for- > skanks "Bridesmaids") have been totally unlike her hyper "SNL" > characters. -- TV or Not TV ....
