Here were the dozen I settled on. Again, the idea was to spark discussion about how they have found or increased their level of fame using new media instead of conventional (mainstream, if you must) methods. I chose a few for compare/contrast purposes, and chose a few because I knew they would be made fun of/detested, which would make for a more interesting debate (can someone you hate still have good ideas, etc.).
J. Michael Straczynski Kevin Smith Conan O'Brien Charlie Sheen Rebecca Black Justin Bieber Marc Maron Arianna Huffington Marina Orlova Wiz Khalifa Lil Wayne ?uestlove I presented the lesson to two of my four groups today. I broke the students into groups of three or four and had them research one of the names online and present their findings to the class. I'd add any information they left out, then the class would sort of decide the pros and cons of each method to success. The first group really sunk their collective teeth into it. The second group did OK. We'll see how tomorrow's two groups do. Thanks to the braintrust for its input. -- Kevin M. (RPCV) -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
