MTV's Americanization of the racy UK teen soap was designed to make the channel a player in scripted television and to give them some buzz beyond the Situation, Snooki, et al (and it did get better ratings than the sitcom "The Hard Times of R.J. Berger," which has been renewed), but in the end the protests of the right wing stood fast and the channel decided it was easier to defend the "Jersey Shore" lunkheads, so "Skins" is dead:
