My biggest objection/problem is that nothing's happened, both in terms
of advancing the plot and real character development.

Despite last week's confessionals, I can't tell you anything about the
majority of the characters. I don't know why Bill Campbell is running
for mayor. (I know nothing about him other than he's sleeping with his
campaign manager [about whom I know nothing] and he's a widower with a
very nice apartment.) The Larsons? She's passive-aggressive and he's
retired mob muscle. I know nothing about the sister or the assistant
at the moving company. I know more about the cops, but that's only
because they came out and flat out announced their backgrounds ("I was
a foster child!" "I'm an addict!" ). I'd like those points made with a
little more subtlety. On top of that, the cops keep making sloppy
mistakes (not following up on the video provided by the kids; all but
printing in the paper the teacher was a suspect; showing up at
people's apartments for drinks, then leaving, etc.)

The plotting is too schizophrenic for me. The show was promo'd (in
memory) as an examination of the impact of a murder, but the writing
has followed the cliches of a whodunnit -- red herrings, suspects both
blatantly obvious and so underplayed as to make them obvious, and
cliffhangers. I could go for either show if it'd make up its mind as
to which one it wants to be, but it's neither fish nor fowl, as far as
I'm concerned.

I look forward to seeing the original, but I'm only into this one for
the big reveal.
