One more post mortem http://io9.com/5824976 I am slightly more interested in comic books and today than I was in the 90s. I did not like comics in the 90s despite being almost within the exact demographic they were targeting -- teenaged boys. And they targeted teenaged boys in the very way you would have guessed: books full of over-muscled beefheads, guns and shooting everywhere, and of course women made entirely out of tits and ass.(Equivalent measurements in real life probably being 46"-3"-46".) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Wildcats_promo.jpg This is a promo image for WildCATS which is an absolute mess artistically. Beyond that, I can't tell for the life of me what that series was supposed to be about. The title calls them a 'covert action team', in apparant contradiction to the image which feature people who couldn't pass covertly through a comic-book convention. Most every action book I would look at looked just as unappealing. Now, I gather from people who did read them then, near nilistic darkness and violence was the theme of the day then -- probably going overboard after accliamed stories by Alan Moore and Frank Miller made others think "dark and edgy" = "artistic and cultural recognition". If this was what David E. Kelly was channelling when he took on this comic book project, he was way out of touch even with comic book fans today who saw that direction as too far into darkness. -- Wesley McGee http://www.ambivi.com http://drawing-a-blank.tumblr.com -- TV or Not TV ....
