I ignored Spencer and Heidi through all these years and I clicked on the first link to see if there was anything in this story. I have to say that Anderson Cooper annoyed me a hell of a lot more than Spencer and Heidi ever could. The smarminess and condescension were obnoxious. This young couple made a ton of money and then lost it. But they are still young and the world is a big place and they can move on and rebuild their lives. Cooper snidely wants us to share his schadenfreude, his enjoyment at their deserved suffering. It looks to me like they had two rough years behind them and fifty years in front of them. Once they figure out that they're out of MTV's target demo and no longer desirable for reality TV they should be OK. And as much as the modern media wants to moan about the famous-for-being-famous phenomenon, it has been with us for as long as there has been mass media. It comes from a mix of young women (debutantes, society heiresses, or showgirls) coming to the big city looking for attention, a growing field of PR specialists and publicists, and newspaper columnists (or feature writers, or radio/TV/internet reporters). People who find a way to milk this machine for money are no more or less deserving of the rewards than people with more talent who may toil for years in obscurity. -- TV or Not TV ....
