I don't know if your mother-in-law's library offers it, but where I am, they offer inter-library loans. Their online catalog will allow you to see the books in other libraries and let you order them. The library takes care of shipping. It's really great because I'm in a small town with just one library, but they can get books from across the region, even though they're not formally related libraries.
