In a surprise move, Sirius XM has dropped the delayed broadcast of BBC Radio 1 from its schedules. Right now, when you hit channel 15, you get a voice telling you alternate channels (which would be Hits One or 20 on 20 for the daytime Top 40 programming, BPM for the nighttime dance programming and Alt Nation or Sirius XMU for the nighttime alt- rock). Tom Taylor in today's Radio-Info newsletter wrote that SXM is preparing a branded Studio 54 channel (despite the fact that the current classic dance/disco channel the Strobe is online only) that could replace R1.
Of course, R1 streams 24/7 online (and through the wondrous RadioPlayer that seems to be slowly but surely adding every radio station in the UK, unfortunately as the country seems to be hit by U.S.-style consolidation and networking and less local radio), but part of the charm of the SXM delayed broadcast was that you could go to work with Chris Moyles, have Fearne Cotton on at work, drive home with Scott Mills and go late-night clubbing with Pete Tong and Annie Nightingale (the senior DJ on R1 after the death of John Peel, with around 40 years on the air!), just like in the UK. Oh well. -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People! You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "TV or Not TV" group.
