I've seen the meme in American advertising, even if not by ESPN. I
remember a commercial in the Pittsburgh market from the Dick's
sporting goods chain aimed at "people who live, eat, drink, and sleep
black and gold." It stuck with me because I aspire to be a casual fan
and I'm turned off by the idea that obsessives are the real fans.
