Once the title character in David Lean's 1940s reading of 'Oliver
Twist' on the big screen, he went on to work in telly, all but a few
years at BBC, rising to become Head of Comedy, overseeing the likes of
Monty Python, Fawlty Towers and Yes, Minister, before becoming
infamous at then-ITV-channel Thames as the guy who sacked Benny Hill.
Monday at his home in Oxfordshire, England; 72.
