My mother (who was from NYC) used to tell me all the time how she had watched Johnny from the beginning, and I remember always thinking that sounded impossible - my mother hardly seemed old enough to have seen all of Carson's career, who just seemed like he had been doing the Tonight Show since time began. To think that soon I will have seen as many nights with Dave doing a late night show as she saw with Johnny (well, not really, I guess that happened some time ago, since she died before he retired) is amazing. -- TV or Not TV ....
