The Big East seems likely to survive as a basketball conference, even
if they end up losing all their football-playing members. If Notre
Dame wants to remain independent in football, they can remain in what
will be a primarily Catholic Big East. (And if they decide that
independence isn't lucrative enough, they can join any conference they
like.)
