I think I laughed at the last joke in the last skit, but the rest was tepid to horrid in my view. I don't even agree that we were relatively Wiig-free; the first half hour played as if Wiig was actually guest hosting, and I suppose was an attempt to take advantage of what they see as big chemistry between Wiig and McCarthy. I do not place Wiig on Kill or Capture list, as some here do, but 3 or 4 of her recurring characters just grate on me - none more so than the one they chose for the cold open last night. I am not terribly tenderhearted, and don't mind making fun of people (as long as they don't go full retard), but I do think that if you are going to base a skit on making fun of marginal people, it really has to be a little extra funny, or have some kind of redeeming feature. A skit that comes across to my old man's eyes as little more than a freak show isn't offensive so much as it has no discernible humorous potential. I had to take my car in to get fixed in August, and walked over to the nearby cinema to kill the time. The only movie starting at the right time was Horrible Bosses, which I was mildly interested in seeing. I got a text half way through that the mechanics (surprise surprise) found a need for unpredicted repairs, so I stayed for the next available film, which was Bridesmaids (this was a bargain theater, obviously). I was surprised that I marginally liked Bridesmaids better than Horrible Bosses - though that was more a function of HB being much less good than I thought it might be. When she won an Emmy a few weeks ago I did not realize that McCarthy had played Zach Galifianakis in that film. She was probably the funniest part of it, but that is not saying a whole lot.* * -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
