I flipped over a little more than an hour before the end of the broadcast, about half an hour before the official word of Wheldon's death came down. The guys in the booth (whose names I don't know) had a moment shortly after I tuned in where they suddenly became very emotional and it was obvious that they had heard that he had died, but were waiting for IndyCar before saying anything. They did a great job.
However, the control room had some timing issues with the formal announcement (the IndyCar official walked straight from the door to a mic and started speaking immediately, so only the announcement of the tribute made it on air live) and had a ton of commercial breaks, which were kind of jarring given the tone of the rest of the broadcast. -- David J.
