Nice work, Mark. You moved me to go back to September 1971 and look through a couple weeks of TV columns (since a newspaper strike prevented the Press from publishing the TV Graphic preview issue).
>> 1972 David Frost Revue > Previously mentioned in thread. Jack Gilford and Marcia Rodd were regulars. >> 1972, 1973 What's My Line? > Larry Blyden was hosting the venerable panel show by this time. Did I see Wally Bruner's name? I didn't scribble it, and it doesn't really matter. >> 1972 The networks got this half-hour [Tuesdays] Looks like it was a bit more complicated. The stations got an additional half hour, but ABC left an opening between Nanny and the Professor and Monday Night Football, while the other two networks left 10:30 Tuesdays open. WTAE showed Man to Man, a talk show hosted by Merlin Olsen and Roman Gabriel in that Monday slot. WIIC showed the Golddiggers on Tuesdays. I'd imagine it was the Dean Martin Show without Dean. KDKA showed Electric Impressions, which was apparently all sorts of random video (including musical performances) hosted by Ron Magers. >> 1972 Some of My Best Friends > Local show, I think. Indeed. KDKA radio talk host Jack Wheeler bopped around town doing interviews. >> 1972 About a Week > Another lcoal show, I suspect. Yup. Patrick Emory hosted a "magazine format of three to five [local] features each week." KDKA Radio personalities were on-air talent. >> 1972, 1973, 1974 The Lawrence Welk Show (second half hour) > TV's Thing That Wouldn't Leave. Still shown on WQED Saturdays at 7:00. >> 1972, 1973 Close-Up >> 1974 Black Chronicles > Local shows? Yup. Close-Up apparently interviewed a local newsmaker every week. A couple other shows that KDKA had in September of 1971: Tom Smothers Organic Prime Time Space Ride, and Street People, where Mal Sharpe went city to city doing humorous man-on-the-street interviews. Smothers was on Wednesdays, and was apparently replaced by Circus. I saw a couple different slots for Street People. -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
