With the U.S. version of Simon Cowell's "Idol" knockoff not pulling
blockbuster ratings and Fox having to do makegoods to advertisers,
over in its home country, Cowell's decision to only appear on the U.S.
version has sent the UK version on ITV's ratings dropping, especially
when "Strictly Come Dancing [With the Stars]" returned last weekend on
BBC1--now the British indie rock band Primal Scream took to their
Twitter feed to attack the show for assigning their song "Rocks" to a
contestant:

The band has also criticized a Tory politician using the same song as
her exit music at a party conference.

Of course, just like Fox is satisfied with "X Factor"'s ratings here,
the British version's ratings are still much more than respectable (a
38 share in a country where cable and satellite penetration is still
relatively low and the majority of viewing is to five terrestrial
networks). Also, "X" has been facing off with "SCD" from the
beginning (and I assume that like its American counterpart, "SCD"'s
demos are much higher than "X Factor"'s).
