They're not associated with the movies. Gervais sort of is, but he also knows that the Oscar ceremony is much more stuck up than the Golden Globes and he can't do gentle wit. The host has to celebrate the movies and the people in the audience and most standups can't or won't do that. That's why the producers have to fish for a different concept. -- TV or Not TV ....
