So the Academy just hit "1" on their speed dial? I was a fan of Billy Crystal for the longest time. I really enjoyed his first few Oscar gigs. But aside from some voiceover work for Pixar, he hasn't done ANYTHING worth seeing in over a decade. And I think we all know how the show will go. The opening film greenscreens Crystal into scenes from the 10 Best Picture nominees, he appears on stage, makes joke about how they're already running long, makes joke about Jack Nicholson sitting in front row, does "Wonderful Night for Oscar", then largely disappears for the rest of the night, except to make additional 'running long' jokes and spout some of Bruce Villanch's C+ material. (Yes, I'm assuming Villanch will find his way back into the fold.)
Can we PLEASE get someone new? I'd have been happy with someone inoffensive like Jason Bateman, thrilled with someone like NPH or Jackman, and I'd even have been happy with someone like Robin Williams, who could be very funny if the Academy lets up on the leash and finds him a waterproof tuxedo.
