CBS's Face the Nation is currently the only network political show that is only 30 minutes long. This spring, that will no longer be true. Starting some time in the spring, CBS is going to start a 20 week test-run for an hour-long Face the Nation.
http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/12/11/face-the-nation-plans-shift-to-hour-long-format/ This New York Times piece notes that CBS had long wanted to expand the show, but had conflicts with affiliates about scheduling. What hasn't been said yet -- maybe this will be answered on Monday when the announcement is made by CBS -- is whether the half-hour is being taken out of affiliate time or from CBS Sunday Morning. If it is the latter, I wonder how WUSA will juggle around that as they use the hour before and after Sunday Morning and FtN to air their four public-affairs programs and the hour before *that* as their E/I hour. Still, the solution for them (as it would be for most every station) if CBS asks for 30 more minutes is to lose one infomercial. -- Wesley McGee http://www.ambivi.com http://sterlingnorth.vox.com http://drawing-a-blank.tumblr.com Twitter: @westwit G+: http://plus.google.com/113413697748381364954 Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/wesleymcgee -- TV or Not TV ....
