The Eye is buying Long Island pure indie WLNY, a big customer for CBS Distribution first-run programs like "Wheel of Fortune," "Jeopardy!", "Judge Judy," "Inside Edition" and "Dr. Phil," for an undisclosed amount, leading with WCBS to NY's fourth TV duopoly after NBC's WNBC and Telemundo affil WNJU, Fox's WNYW and MyTV affil WWOR and wnet.org's WNET and WLIW (Long Island's other major TV station in which is technically a separate market than NYC, although all of NY's major stations are seen on the island):
http://www.thewrap.com/tv/article/cbs-new-york-station-purchase-gives-it-duopoly-33522 CBS says that WCBS will provide news programming for WLNY similar to its other duops (nost notably KCBS and KCAL in LA--WLNY already does 35 minutes of local news weeknights at 11)--but one wonders if the new owners will stop replacing CBS Distribution first-run programming on the NY cable feed of WLNY and how WABC, longtime home of "Wheel" and "Jeopardy!", will feel about those shows having a second NY cable home. -- TV or Not TV ....
