Rafelson) "The Monkees,"  he got the leverage to make "Easy Rider,"
"The Last Picture Show" and "Five Easy Pieces," the films that started
the New Hollywood and arguably the most creative decade of American
cinema before Lucas and Spielberg spoiled it all--Peter Davis, whose
Oscar-winning doc "Hearts and Minds" was produced by Mr. Schneider,
