The first article actually answers a question that I meant to share in
this group this summer. I went to see Letterman one afternoon (air
date August 1; I lucked out in getting tickets day of), and I was
surprised at how much time Brill spent with Letterman during the
breaks. There was a point in which Letterman left the stage quite
dramatically during the break (there were technical difficulties which
required reshooting part of the Top 10 which was not even used), and
when he came back, he seemed to refuse to talk to anyone except Brill.
It almost seemed as if Brill was Letterman's svengali. I wondered who
exactly he was.
