As a space geek this is cool, but as a TV nerd the potential significance is astonishing. Not of alien life because the most likely cause is as the article suggests, but we didn't do a very good job of preserving a lot of early shows (prime example: the first episode of "The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson"). Imagine a scenario where we are able to archive and catalog a whole backhistory of television. Live shows, commercials, news reports, etc. I'm intensely curious what they've been able to collect beyond the good doctor.
