Cumulus Media Services, the radio syndicator formerly known as CItadel Media and ABC Radio, is launching a new talk show for Mike Huckabee on Apr. 2 that would run from noon to 3 p.m. ET against comedian Rush Limbaugh (through Clear Channel's Premiere Networks)--an interesting move, considering that many Cumulus talk stations carry Limbaugh live (most notably WABC in New York and WLS in Chicago) and also considering that Cumulus and Premiere share syndication for Sean Hannity later in the day (who is technically a Cumulus employee)-- would Cumulus stations dare dump Limbaugh knowing that a competitor would snap him up immediately?:
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/09/business/media/mike-huckabee-to-begin-new-radio-show.html Of the two big markets I cited, CC has no AM properties in NY and their Chicago AM properties are lower-powered bottom of the dial stations (one of which is LMA'd to local Midway Broadcasting for urban talker WVON). If WABC dropped Limbaugh, Buckley's WOR would snap him in a minute if they could figure out what to do with station veteran Joan Hamburg, the last remnant of the station's old days of John Gambling's dad, Arlene Francis, Jean Shepherd and 15-minute newscasts every hour. In Chicago, Salem's WIND would want Limbaugh, but would Premiere swallow their pride and trade a 50,000 watt station for a 5,000 watter (and lose clearance for their Glenn Beck)? Which presents another possibility--would Tribune's WGN, a station that has never carried a syndicated talk show on weekdays--EVER--take Limbaugh if he was available, especially considering that they've been spending the last year or so backtracking on Randy Michaels and Kevin "Pig Virus" Metheny's attempt to turn 'GN into a hot conservative talk station? -- TV or Not TV ....
