That's helpful, as by the time I saw the message and flipped over, Jay was
already interviewing Arnie Hammer and lacked a 'stache.

Fallon was on The Tonight Show last Friday, which is the likely source of the
bet.  Casual searching suggests they played a game of cabbage bowling -
something that wouldn't be out of place on Fallon's edition of Late Night.

Jay lost a bet (over what, he didn't say) to Jimmy Fallon: if Jay lost the bet,
he had to do his entire monologue wearing a fake mustache - and he couldn't say
anything about the mustache during the monologue. It was one of those
elephant-in-the-room moments. After the commercial break, Jay sat at his desk
and announced the week's coming guests, still wearing the mustache. Then when
the animation for the "Headlines" segment played, the fake headline at the end
of the animation explained what it was all about. Jay then peeled off the
mustache and stuck it on his desk.
