It's been about a decade since I was last in Florida, but the roster
usually included the players on the 40-man roster and the non-roster
invitees. Those guys would have their names on their backs. There
would be also a handful of guys from the minor league camp to fill out
the team that day, and they wouldn't have names on their jerseys. I'm
guessing that each team has a few "generic" shirts in a variety of
sizes with otherwise unused numbers (like in the 90s) that the minor
leaguers wear; they're probably so happy to spend a day with the big
leaguers that they don't care about the lack of name or an inexact
fit. It's not hard to imagine those names getting lost, whether it's
at the team's end or the truck's. (You can imagine how much fun it can
be trying to keep score, although I always enjoyed seeing exhibition
baseball.)
