The Worldwide Leader will move its NY radio station from 1050 AM to 98.7 FM as of Monday in a local marketing agreement deal with Emmis, on the frequency where the soft urban "no rap" station WRKS "Kiss" has been for 30 years--Emmis has sold the "intellectual property" and two of the DJ contracts of Kiss to the new owners of the pioneering black radio station WBLS and as of Monday those two DJs will move to BLS (while the syndicated Tom Joyner and Michael Blaisden shows lose their NY home)--Disney still has control of 1050 AM and the Spanish-language ESPN Deportes net will start airing on that frequency in June: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/27/sports/espn-radio-plans-move-to-98-7-fm-in-new-york.html ESPN Radio NY is not a 24/7 regurgitation of Bristol--even though they carry Mike and Mike, there are several local talk shows on the lineup and they carry the Knicks, Rangers and Jets games. The money was betting not that ESPN was going to make the move, but where--and the thought was that they would buy Family Radio's WFME (another of that religious group's stations being on the block) or BLS. Meanwhile, Emmis, having given up control of two of its former three stations in NY, is only left with urban WQHT "Hot 97," notorious for violent acts occurring in front of its studios and politically incorrect banter from its morning crew (as in anti-Asian and anti-Semitic). Without the other stations, one wonders how long Emmis will put with this headache before selling or changing format.
