Once upon a time, three companies owned a slate of cable networks, called A
& E.NBCUniversal owned 25%, while ABC and Hearst owned 37.5%. Elsewhere,
ABC and Hearst own Lifetime's Networks 50-50. In 2009, the companies
decided to pool all of these assets together into a bigger A & E Networks.
ABC and Hearst's stake in A&E Nets thus grew to 42.1% each, while NBCUni's
shrunk to 15.8%. When this deal was first proposed, insiders suggest this
would lead to NBC eventually selling its stake altogether. Now, NBC is
selling a substantial bit of this network...
