And a personal note: Someone I know got an Emmy nomination while still living in Chicago. Scott Gryder, a musical theater performer and cabaret singer here in town, is also a cast member (and co-writer) of "Green Screen Adventures," a little kids show that Chicago pure indie WCIU decided to produce themselves rather than take a syndicated "E/T" show. The show is now national, thanks to the Me-TV and This TV digital subchannels co-owned by Weigel Broadcasting, WCIU's owner, and Scott is nominated for a Daytime Emmy for not performing or writing, but for makeup! Another performer and writer on the show, Jessica Carleton, is also nominated for makeup for the show (she also designs and builds the show's puppets). Their competition in the category includes an R.L. Stine show on the Hub and Baba Wawa's makeup woman on "The View," but I would just love it to see this little low-budget local show from Chicago beat the networks.
