I remember, either in a DVD commentary track or an interview, Dan
Harmon said that he wanted the show to go for 4 years with each season
being a school year. He said if the series went further, and it did
not sound like he was expecting it, he would have to get a new study
group. He did not feel that there was any point in following the
current characters in their post-college lives.
