I think they made a key, but understandable error with Miami - after around season three, it had become something of a prototype of faux-cool. It got a lot of pop buzz for that, and had a chance of being so square that it was at least semi-hip. Then the show seemed to consciously try to pull back from that (eliminating the signature sunglasses reveal in the open), and instead of being faux and ironically cool, it just became completely uncool.
