I gave up on the show ages ago, but I remember that first season vividly - 7 people living and working in New York. Roommate disagreements. The apartment as a huge, sparsely IKEA-furnished space without much character. Much less obvious interference from producers (girls' trip to the Bahamas not withstanding). As an aspiring actor, I pictured my eventual life in NYC to be pretty similar to what I was seeing on the screen. I wish there were some way for "The Real World" to recapture some of the raw, almost unfinished quality it had that first season, but alas, MTV has a demographic to satisfy, and they expect lavish houses, stereotype housemates and drunken debauchery on a weekly basis. No one wants to see actual human interaction anymore.
