When Lorne did the big cast turnover in 1995, one thing noted in the press at the time was that new cast members were signed to 7 year deals. The comment at the time was that Lorne was being greedy, that if another John Belushi, Eddie Murphy, or Adam Sandler came along and exploded in popularity, Lorne could develop projects through Broadway Video and not just lose the performer. Another outcome of the 7 year deal is that at the end of 7 years you have a good idea of whether a performer is going to be the next Will Ferrell or the next Casey Anthony and everybody can plan accordingly. Wiig, Samberg, and Sudeikis are all at the end of their deals. If there is other work out there for them to do there is no good reason to keep hanging around at SNL. The show works best as an incubator of new talent. -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People! You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "TV or Not TV" group.
