Kathryn Joosten didn't begin her career until her 40s (I happened to see
her in a Chicago production of "Come Back Little Sheba" in 1982--she was
better than the production), but when she moved to LA she became much in
demand, playing the secretary on "The West Wing" and winning an Emmy twice
for her role as Mrs. McKluskey on "Desperate Housewives"--her death came
after a long bout with lung cancer:
