I am surprised to learn that in most of the obits I read today, by far the
most emphasis is placed on her role in Desperate Housewives, a show I did
not even know she was on, with what for me is her defining role as Mrs.
Landingham mostly listed, if at all, as supplemental. Her part in the WW
was small, but crucial. I used to think it was mostly because of the halo
effect from her part in one of the top five episodes of any show in the
history of television (In Excelsis Deo), but in time I realized it was more
than that, the character/actress provided a connection to the President
that the other characters could not. My memory is that they just wrote
Joosten out of the show when she told them she was up for a bigger part on
a new show, and, I guess relishing their courage and unpredictability in
killing off a much-loved character. In this case, I think it bit them in
the ass (although I always thought the young Landingham was uncomfortably
hot). **
