Here's a LiveJournal post from April from "whipchick," a member of an
established novelty act who finally succumbed to appearing on what is
obviously "America's Got Talent" (referred to as "America's Got Lawsuits
(If You Reveal the Outcome Before the Episode Airs)" and with obvious
references to Howard, Sharon, Howie and Nick), their shock at getting booed
by the audience and buzzed by the judges and the subsequent discovery that
the crowd may've been cued to respond in a fait accompli:

Of course, it's no secret that, like "Idol," the acts go through vetting
before meeting the judges in the auditions, the credits on these shows
often have a disclaimer that the judges do confer with the producers on
some decisions, and that the ultimate decision in the live performance
shows is that of the viewers, one could still wonder if we have a reason
for something like the scandals and the networks being forced to
reconfigure the Standards and Practices departments that used to police the
game shows after the quiz scandals but have been dismantled in the last
decade.
