I found a new BBC series to enjoy (OK, it is a few years old, but new to me). "Turn Back Time -- The High Street" is one of those historic reality shows like "Frontier House" where families must live and work as they would in different eras. In this series, the families assume roles as shopkeepers (grocers, bakers, butchers, ironworkers, dressmakers, etc.) and follow the rules of Victorians, Edwardians, etc. all the way through the 1970s. Each week (each episode) takes place in a different point in history.
As I watched the first two episodes generously given to me by a friend, I couldn't help but think how cool it would be to do something like this for the Haight Ashbury corner of San Francisco or the Lauren Canyon community in the Hollywood Hills. And to my friends who think the food they ate 100-years-ago was healthier than the food of today, watch the first episode -- it will blow your mind. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00v7p71 -- Kevin M.
