If you saw the original British series on BBCA last year, you know that it's a fairly inspirational show about choirmaster Gareth Malone's attempts to form choirs in places like high schools or blue collar communities where one would not think there would be a great interest in singing classical music or show tunes--Malone will be be the key figure in thia U.S. version, from the parent of the show's UK producers: http://www.thewrap.com/tv/column-post/choir-gets-10-episode-order-usa-49331 Along with the Characters-Wanted net's other reality series "The Moment," it's obvious that USA wants to go the inspirational route and not either to reality comps or "Real Housewife"-y trashfests (hey, leave that to sister channel Bravo). And points off to Marc Berman for his "not another singing competition" claim about "The Choir" when it is anything but an "Idol" or "Voice" clone.
