Yeah, reaction shots go back some. My "MTV" reference was to the
frequency of cuts, since many directors are unwilling to stay with one
shot for any length of time. A bunch of different faces in the crowd
seems to be a way of doing that cutting while looking like information
is being added.

Bob, is "control of video by the party brass" a guess on your part, or
is there a source for it?

If the parties don't arrange to put their protesters at each others'
conventions, you're left with a lot of career protesters who are as
predictable as the pols inside the hall.
