Thanks for digging up that article, Bob. Another reason that there are no new miniseries is that the big ones have all been based on books, especially memoirs and novels. Books don't have the pop culture juice they once had and they are becoming a niche form of entertainment. When they did miniseries based on books by James Michener or Herman Wouk knowledge of the authors' reputations and popularity of the books drove people to see the miniseries, even if they had not read the books. Today's audience will not have heard of the authors or the books and will not be drawn to watch. -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
