I don't think she's singing flat as much as she's singing to a much more restrained arrangement. I think it suits that venue. Julie Andrews really belted out that song and she had to in her scene in the film in order to stand out as the single figure in a huge landscape. If the upcoming is done as a movie Underwood will also have to belt out the song. If it's done more like a stage show she can stick to a restrained version.
