At the time they dumped Kilborn they might have treated Stewart as just another staff hire instead of letting him run the show the way he saw fit and hire and fire staff. Network talk shows have bigger budgets and an interest in building a brand for a new host so they will reboot the whole show when hosts change. I don't know how many times cable talk shows have undergone a change of host rather than canceling the old show and letting a host create one from scratch. -- TV or Not TV ....
