There's a tribute programme airing on BBC One in the UK right now about him
(for those who may be able to make use of such information).

The Sky at Night was a remarkable programme that has run my entire life and
longer still. A remarkable presentation run that won't ever be matched. He
was clearly struggling towards the end, with some of his younger cohorts
taking over the main duties each month. A monthly TV programme is obviously
also something of a rarity. I don't think the BBC dared to cancel it, and
in any case it clearly cost hardly anything at all to make, so it would
have been pointless to do so.

I suspect that with his death comes the end of a monthly TV show on
astronomy on the biggest TV station in the land - albeit a show that aired
late on Sunday nights (with a couple of repeats at more reasonable hours).

Yes he had some eccentric, and at times objectionable, personal views. But
to be honest, that never came over on television, and I for one will miss
him.
