The arts channel disappeared in Time Warner Cable homes yesterday and the
MSO indicated that a lot of channels--including such high profile channels
as Lifetime, E!, Hallmark Channel, Encore (ahead of HBO among subscribers
to premium channels thanks to being included in many systems' upper basic
tiers), Starz and the partially-owned by TWC audio service Music
Choice--that are up for renewal this year may get the axe, in the name of
trying to control costs and responding to customer complaints about pricing:

The only sports channels on that list, BTW, are NHL Network and its
associated PPV plan (considering that there may not be an NHL at all soon,
no surprise) and bilingual soccer channel GOLTV. Meanwhile, no one has the
balls to get rid of or challenge ESPN or the regional sports channels that
are the real reason for the bloated rates (or move them out of basic).
