The former Clara Ann Fowler took her stage name when she replaced the 
original "Patti Page" on a program sponsored by Page Milk on a Tulsa radio 
station--her many pre-rock hits, including "The Tennessee Waltz," parlayed 
into hosting variety shows on all three original networks in the 50s--in 
later years she was frequently seen on nostalgia-mongering PBS pledge drive 
specials and was to receive a lifetime achievement Grammy next month:
